Teresa on Abortion Rights
As you may have heard, a draft court opinion was released Monday suggesting that the Supreme Court is prepared to overturn Roe v Wade. The swirl of emotions is difficult to put into words and is a sentiment shared by all of you. Fear for our young adults and children to come, anger at the expected outcome, and sadness. I also feel an increased sense of resolve to reach every voter in Billerica to earn their votes in November. My platform already includes increasing access and affordability to all forms of healthcare, but so there is no question - As your State Representative, I will never stop fighting to defend the right to an abortion. Voters also deserve to know Representative Marc Lombardo’s stance on reproductive healthcare. My opponent is one of the most anti-choice legislators on Beacon Hill. Year after year, he votes against the values of Billerica. Here’s just a sampling of his record:
189th Session (2015 - 2016)
For the third session in a row, Lombardo sponsored an act to allow protestors at abortion clinics to intimidate patients (Bill H.1468)
For the third session in a row, Lombardo co-sponsored many additional burdens on patients and care facilities (Bills H.1441 and H.2800)
Voted against free birth control (H.4009)
191st Session (2019 - 2020)
Filed a bill on behalf of Diane Sue Dorrington that would restrict all abortions after 12 weeks (H.3372)
Life Alliance also sponsored the Town Meeting Resolution in support of an abortion ban (Fall 2019 - Billerica Town Meeting)
Did not vote for increased access to family planning centers (H.3638)
Voted AGAINST the ROE Act
192nd Session (2021 - 2022)
Proposed a bill restricting abortion to "only if the physician deems abortion medically necessary" while promoting a false narrative around abortion centers (H.1760 GOP Press Release )
At a time when abortion is under attack at the federal level, we need to send a message that Massachusetts supports a woman’s right to control her own body. Let’s send that message here, in Billerica, by voting for a change on November 8. Let’s get to work.
